John’s Otis the Old Omega 10-Speed

This month’s most eager entrant, John, sent me his gorgeous Omega 10-Speed which he has appropriately named OTiS. A couple of emails received from him indicate that he has his sights set on a win in May’s OTSOTM. With this kind of quality, he and OTiS are likely to tear up the competition. However, strange things happen—sometimes the ugly bike wins(February) or sometimes the voters grow indifferent(March) or sometimes the owners resort to shameless campaigning(April)—making potential upsets loom behind every corner. Good luck in the competition John—you shouldn’t need it, but you never know.

I have never heard of an Omega bicycle before, but I could see the potential it had. I rescued the neglected frame from a neighbors back yard. Completely tore apart the 4130 CROMO frameset. Cleaned it all up and added a very nice set of Normandy 10 speed wheels. Old bike is almost to pretty to ride. I do probably 10 complete restorations a year as a hobby. By the way… I am one of Bob’s co-workers. I thought this entry might shake things up a bit. I named this bike OTIS.

Thanks John

For Sale To A Good Home: Greg’s All Original Suteki 12 Road Bike

Typically I don’t post classified ads for individuals, but I made an exception today. Greg in Windsor, Ontario, contacted me via email wanting to know the best way to locate a worthy purchaser for his astoundingly original Suteki 12. I immediately identified with Greg plight. I am, and have always have been, very attached to bikes and vehicles I have owned, and when faced with selling one of them, I plummet into a fit of ownership related separation anxiety. That said, anytime I have sold a car or bike I had always gone to great pains to ensure it made it’s way into to the capable hands of a loving new owner. After three months of creating and maintaining this website, it is clear to me that any one of the OTS riders and aficionados that frequent the OTSG would certainly be the most capable hands and the most loving new owners of any orphaned 10 12 speed. So without further ado, I am happy to present Greg’s Suteki 12:

Hello, I came across your site while looking for info on a Suteki 12 speed racing bike. I am looking to sell one, but considering it is in great shape with the original components, I didn’t want it to go to just anyone. I would appreciate your help, if you know the best way to locate a potential buyer. I am currently in Windsor Ontario, just across the river from Detroit Michigan, but will be moving to Phoenix Arizona in about 4 weeks. I am attaching a picture with this email.

Thanks for your time.

Lucas’ Royce Union Supreme 10

Today’s Royce Union, sent in by Lucas, is the second of it’s kind to visit The Gallery. The first Runion sent in by Ian, won the inaugural OTSOTM—against some rather formidable opponents, I would add. Obviously, Lucas has some rather large shoes to fill—getting this beauty for free is a good start, but I see a few concerns that need to be addressed soon.

  1. An insufficient reflector presence—none on the spokes—none one the headtube or the seatstay—just a couple measly pedal reflectors.
  2. By photographing the none driveside Lucas thought he could hide his lack of proper pie-platage. Unlike most bike-porn sites, we love the plates—especially big chrome ones. For examples of proper platage, check Bob’s Garage.
  3. The seat height is nowhere near BOS. Proper seat height is determined, by one’s ability to sit comfortably and still reach the ground mid-tipitoe.
  4. Bare bars work on some bikes, but this Runion deserves some proper bar coverage.

I picked this Royce Union Supreme 10 up at a friend of my dad’s. The bike was sitting outside and covered in orange rust, but after an afternoon of steel wool, it looks good as new. Needs some new tires, brake pads, and cables, but Free is definitely the best price to pay for a bike like this.

Thanks Lucas

Rachel’s 10-Speed of Love: Cyclops Monaco

Jonathan a has confirmed my suspicions that all women really want is someone else’s old ten speed. This Cyclops Monaco with which he chose to woo his beloved is nearly identical to the Cyclops Monaco that sat outside the hotel in which I wooed my beloved on our honeymoon. Forget the flowers, go with fenders.

Hi Cameron,
I’ve been meaning to send this to you for a while. In late February i read how you thought we should buy an OTS for our significant other for Valentine’s Day. Funny thing is, I had done just that.

This is Rachel’s bike: an early 80’s (I think) Cyclops Monaco. It’s a freat bike, bought cheap on eBay. I got lost for nearly two hours in pouring rain on the way back from collecting it. That’s love…

Thanks for the site,
Jonathan

Thanks Jonathan

From Bob’s Garage: 1973 Schwinn Super Sport

Runner-up in April’s OTSOTM, Bob is back again with a bid for the May title. This time around it is this 1973 Schwinn Super Sport complete with rear rack, Brooks B-15 and fan favorite fork-mounted flamingo.

As promised, another OTS.
More from my herd of Schwinns. This is my 1973 Scwhinn Super Sport. The color is Sunset Orange, I call it the Great Pumpkin. This bike weighs a ton, thanks to the one-piece crank and that enormous steel pie-plate. Rides great. The frame is fillet-brazed chrome-moly. The Super Sport came new with the Brooks B-15 saddle.
Thanks,
Bob

Hope everyone has a great Memorial Day Weekend. See you Tuesday.
Thanks again Bob
