This is Hubie’s 1986 Nishiki Cresta GT and the first of a week’s worth of Japanese OTS.

1986 Nishiki Cresta GT
Technically 15 speeds. I hope that is ok. Found on Craigslist last week, looking for a new project. Could not resist. I don’t think it was ridden at all, no paint chips at the rear axle, so appears wheel never came off. All original except bottle holders. Rides great but has goofy cycloid sugino chainrings.
Thanks Hubie
With this weekend being unofficially the unofficial end of summer, I hope everyone enjoyed themselves as much as I did. Thank you for a great summersworth of OTS.
Time again to close out another fine week of OTS, and doing the honors is Michael C.’s 1987 Panasonic DX6000. I’m happy to report: with Michael’s submittal we have now doubled the OTSG’s Panasonic “DX Index” to a very respectable DX 4500. Way-to-go!

This is my DX-6000 that I got as a 23rd birthday present to myself. It was basically mint condition when I got it, even had the original tires that held air. With some minor derailler adjustment it shifts marvelously. It’s a 10ish-speed (okay, okay, it’s 14) with full SunTour Sprint groupset. It’s a wonderful bike and I’ve already put 200 miles on it since the beginning of May!
I’d include a newer and better picture but the day these were taken I was run off the road and now I have a mismatched blackwall tire up front.
Thanks again Michael
Fellow Chicagoan, Gaige, has offered for our gawking pleasure this Yell’r Azuki commuter.

Rescued and Rehauled winter 2008-9 from a dingy Chicago basement. My regular commuter to work. Looking to do a bit more work on her.
Thanks Gaige
It really doesn’t get any more old ten speed than a panel painted Raleigh, and who doesn’t love those ginormus, Raleigh front reflectors. It’s like Sputnik!

Purchased this bike my first year of college. Commuted 13 miles to school, 13 miles back everyday. I was never in better shape in my life. But, now at 52, I’m a little out of shape. Could stand to lose 10 pounds and can’t think of a better way to lose it. After a lot of elbow grease and less than $100 dollars for new brake and shift cables, tires and tubes, she ready to go. Just waiting for some white handlebar tape to finish it off.
Thanks Randy
Thanks to Steve H. and his Takara, the OTSG just got one bike more Prestigious.

I found this bike quietly wasting away in the weeds at my neighbor’s house (looked like it had been sitting there for a few years!). I asked about it, and she let me take it for free. Mechanically it was in excellent condition after I cleaned the weeds and dirt off it. I only had to replace the handlebar wrap, the seat, tubes and one tire. It’s surprisingly light and fast for an old ten speed!
Thanks Steve
