• Dan B’s Austro Daimler by Puch Pathfinder A-D

First time contributor, Dan B in Connecticut, offers for our enjoyment his Austro Daimler Pathfinder A-D.  A $40 C-list grab, and bargain at thrice the price!

Hi. First submission to OTSG. I have been collecting and riding OTS bikes for about two years now. Fantastic photos on your website. A great combination of bikes plus location. I am already scouting locations for future bike photos. Attached are photos of a Austro Daimler by Puch Pathfinder A-D that I purchased for $40 off a CL ad. Age is unknown. The bike needed only new tires and tubes. Aside from a few scratches to the top tube, the frame is in good condition. Components include Suntour AR shifters and front and rear derailleurs, Sugino cranks and Weinmann brakes. I am looking forward to becoming a regular visitor to your site and frequent contributor.

    Dan B.

    Thanks Dan

    James B’s 1970 Takara

This is James B‘s “crappy” 1970 Takara.

    Cameron,

Thanks for posting my nice ’83 Schwinn World Sport.

On the other end of the spectrum, and holding true to the theme that “if it ain’t crappy, I’m not happy”, I present my

1970 Takara which is as crappy as you can possibly get and still be in one whole piece. And best of all, it’s a cottered crank.

This one I actually paid $10 for (along with 4 other bikes), maybe I got robbed. One of the other bikes was a Schwinn Sprint.

This one is a true 1970 model, possibly the oldest in existence today. Should I restore it? Will that diminish it’s value?

    I’m perplexed.

    Thanks James

Monday Market (Tuesday Edition): Chris U’s 1962 Schwinn Varsity Sport Touring

Today’s “Monday Market” is so good I had to wait until Tuesday to post it. This is Chris U’s 1962 Schwinn Varsity Sport Touring 10-speed. Definitely one of the Top 3 Varsity here in the Gallery. (I would have called it #1 if it weren’t for that horrendous plastic pie plate.  Let’s keep ‘em chrome people!)

    Robin S’s Falcon Black Diamond

Today’s OTS, a Falcon Black Diamond come to us from Scottland courtesy of Robin S.  Just a wee bit grungy. I like it.

    Dear Sir,

Please accept my submission to your Old 10 Speed bike website. I hope the images of the bike are Ok. If not just drop me a line and I’ll figure out how to reduce their size.

    Make: Falcon
    Model: Black Diamond

    About the bike:
I bought this bike from a charity bike shop called the ‘Bike Station’ in Waverly Station about six years ago. I cost me £20 and the guy wrote on the sales receipt “this is not a bike, it’s a collection of bike parts”. He grossly underestimated this steed’s resilience and longevity.

I’ve done hundreds and hundreds of miles on the old jalopy, replacing parts as the disintegrate/break/catastrophically fail. This was my regular commuting bike when I worked in Edinburgh and I loved whizzing past flashy MTBers and LRT buses.

My next repair job will be the bottom bracket which is a wee bit loose. A little birdie told me that you can replace old BBs with cartridge BBs. I hope this is true. I’m also thinking of a new pair of wheels as I can never seem to get the rear bearings to stop going “clickety clack”.

    Thanks Robin
