    Art F’s Regina Sport 10-Speed

Art’s got an OTSG First up for our enjoyment. This is his Made in France Regina Sport.

Hi Cameron, Here’s a bike I picked up at a thrift shop that looked like a run of the mill mass production bike from the 70s complete with cottered crank , Simplex derailleurs, dimpled steel rims , and wing nut front wheel attachment. But doing a Google search I couldn’t find any information on it . Even Sheldon Brown only knew the company as a producer of chains and freewheels . the only mention I found was a frame with the Regina Sport name being sold on Ebay. It was made in France and might have had some connection to Peugeot as the rims were the same as used on many Peugeots. The other rare feature it had was an intact Simplex front derailleur. I don’t think I’ve encountered another one that didn’t have the plastic clamp seat tube clamp broken. The rear derailleur was misadjusted so there was no spring tension so I replaced it with a Shimano derailleur . I’ll probably be banned from the Louvre for that move. Have any of you OTSG aficionados ever seen another Regina bicycle? I sold it on craigslist for $120 which was a great deal for the last Regina bicycle left in the world .

    Thanks Art

    Dan B’s Carabela Mixte

This is Dan B’s Carabela Mixte, an OTSG First. As Dan mentions, this marque was apparently built in Mexico by Acer-Mex. There is also a bit of discussion over at Bike Forums about this marque.

Hi Cameron: I came upon this Carabela mixte by chance at tag sale that was not advertised on CL or in my local paper. After hitting the advertised sales one Saturday morning, I happened to drive passed a house with a tag sale sign out front. I glanced down the driveway and saw the bike. I stopped and spoke with the owner. She accepted my $20 offer, but I had only a $10 in my pocket so I needed to make a run to the ATM. The owner agreed to hold the bike for me. When I returned, the owner told me that she had two people interested in the bike while I was gone who offered to pay more than my offer. I thanked her for holding the bike for me and returned home. The bike bears a “Made in Mexico” logo and features Suntour shifters and a Gran Compe stem. The lugs are nicely detailed, I think.
