• David J’s 1974 Schwinn Continental

Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend! After last week’s plumbing pipe theme, I think we could all use a little Electro-forged goodness. Leading us out, is David J’s gorgeous David J’s 1974 Schwinn Continental.

Hi Cameron, here is photo of my 1974 Schwinn Continental. I saved this one from a thrift store about five years ago, it cost me a whopping eight bucks. It had the wrong handlebars and seat which I have corrected since then.  She is a great riding old ten speed and I love the color. David

Here is a picture of my Dad’s, Brother’s and My old ten speeds in front of Coates Cyclery in Pomona Ca. Both the green and the yellow Varsity’s were purchased new from this dealer.

    Thanks David

    Billnuke1′s Spartan 10-Speed

We’re finishing the week as strong as we started it, and Billnuke1 is coming up big with second long bomb of the week! This is his ladies Spartan 10-Speed. Craptasticly perfect. Happy Memorial Day Weekend everyone! Go Ride Your Bike!

Hey Guys/Gals, I found this Spartan 10 speed bike in an old basement. It has a front and rear light setup with generator that runs off the rear tire. As oon as I can get close to my air pump I’ll pump up the tires, grease it up and take it for a ride. I t looks like “dad” used 50 weight oil on the chain! I like the electrical tape on the light setup! I’m going to leave it right there! I would guess that the bike has not seen the light of day for 25 years! I saw the handle bars and headlight peeking out of a pile of old sleds and other bikes! I just had to have it! The little “spoke guy” sealed the deal!

    Thanks Bill

Christopher B’s Iverson Grand Sport 10

No, this is a repost of yesterday’s AMF Pursuit. This is in fact a completely different bicycle, but certainly a contemporary.  This is Christopher B’s Iverson Grand Sport 10, and despite the fact that it bares an uncanny resemblance  to the other bikes featured this week, this particular incarnation is an OTSG First!

Unknown year – somewhere in the 70′s Iverson Grand Sport 10

My father bought this bike for himself, and I eventually took it over when I moved up from my Huffy Thunder Trail 78 bike.  I rode this bike all over the place and put on the foam grips you see somewhere in the early 80′s.  Other than the grips and tires, the bike is original. It’s still at my parents’ house – I took these pictures last summer while visiting.

    Thanks Chistopher

    Billnuke1′s AMF Pursuit

We put the ‘happy’ in ‘crhappy’! Here is one sterling example, Billnuke1′s AMF Pursuit. Say what you will, I see potential!

Hi Gang, Here is my latest “pick-up/rescue”. I spent $5.50(used a credit card) for this rare? beauty! Ihad just spent my last bike budget dollars on an old one owner Schwinn Continental! I had actually brought $3.00 in quarters to make the $35.00 asking price! He let it go for $32.00! I have no idea yet what year this bike is. Definitely mid 70′s. Not sure of the significance of the Chrysler emblem! Good Day! Good Hunting! Bill

    Thanks Bill

    Timothy J’s Huffy 626

The Huffy keep huffing through, and spreading their good cheer all through the OTSG. This particularly smart rendition of the “all too familiar lines” is a Huffy 626 submitted by Timothy J.

Finally I have aquired a genuine junky old ten-speed.  I got this little gem as part of single lot of bikes and parts for a smoking deal.  After amusing myself with the Huffy, I will make some necessary repairs and put it on Craigslist where it will find a home with someone who will love it as much as I didn’t.

Huffy model 626, vintage unknown.  All the weight of a Schwinn Varsity without the cachet.  Despite having plastic brake lever housings which have cracked, the Huffy aspired to greatness with its Selle Royal seat and its dignity intact after all of these years.  By the way, if anyone has ideas on how to repair the cracked housing on the brakes I’d love some advice.  I suspect some sort of epoxy is what’s called for.

    Thanks Timothy
