Monday Market – Southeast Michigan’s Source For Old 10-Speeds

Finding a good yet affordable 10-Speed these days is no easy task. With the popularity of online classifieds continually on the rise, anyone with a camera and computer can pawn off their ugly ill-maintained bikes(10-speed or other) to whomever is willing to pay the — three times what would be reasonable — asking price.

Hugh — veteran and friend of the OTSG — is one such bike selling guy. What sets Hugh apart, however, is that his bikes are actually very nice. Clearly, he has a knack for finding bikes in exceptional condition(which is key), he then disassembles and completes a thorough inspection and reconditioning process on all of them — kind of like a Lexus. When you buy an old bike from Hugh, it’s not used, it’s Certified Pre-Owned.

Some of his offerings:

Don’t miss my auction on Ebay, beginning today, July 5: 1976 Schwinn Le Tour II, in great, ready-to-ride condition. This bike was last year’s ride, and this year I’m working on a Fuji “Road Racer” in mint green. It was hard to part with the Le Tour–that color just says, “Summer.”

I failed to add the Ebay item number, in case you are looking: Item number: 320271068962. Hope this is just what someone needs.

I have a male and female 1977 Schwinn Le Tour II, can you give
me an idea of what they are worth…
    thanks.

Depending on your location, you can get more for your bike by selling it locally on craigslist or kijiji. Here in the Chicago area even rat bikes go for $75-$100 and the nicer Schwinns and other boom bikes bring $150-$200.

guess what I really meant is a men’s and women’s 1977 Schwinn Le Tour II
    🙂

From searching completed auctions on Ebay, bikes in good condition seem to be selling around $100 and up. You can watch my auction by clicking on the item number above. The auction is over on Saturday, the 12th.

I have a 1980’s Red Schwinn Sprint 10-speed just like the one shown in the picture above, completely intact down to the desintegrating yellow-walled tires which still hold air.
Nothing missing as far as I can tell.

Anybody want to pay me $250. for it?
It’s in Orlando Florida. Yes, it has the original seat for heaven’s sake, and the foam over the handle, the reflectors, everything. All the gears work fine. A time capsule.

    Hi,
I was interested in the ’76 chestnut Schwinn Continental Pictured.I have the same bike, and still ride it.Is this bike for sale?If so,what is the condition of it?
    Thanks,
    Rob

All the above bikes sold quickly with the exception of the C.C.M. I really thought some old hockey player like myself would snatch it up. Wrong! It was a needed reality-check and a lesson learned.I finally dropped the price to my cost and was able to move it.Quality sells bikes not novelty.
