Alex D’s sent us this 1974 Schwinn Varsity which he built up nicely for his wife.

1974 Schwinn Varsity

I was looking for a vintage ten speed for my wife, and discovered this Varsity in the condition you see in the before picture. It was missing the pedals, seat, and seat post, and the chain and derailleur had definitely seen better days. The cable housing was severely dry, as were the brake cables and tires. Spokes were missing from both wheels, and the entire thing was just filthy. However, after a complete tear down, clean up, and rebuild (including derailleur tear down and rebuild), the bicycle is like new again. My wife loves using it, and I enjoy seeing the fruits of my labor pay off in a great looking and mechanically sound vintage bicycle. It’s not completely original, but it was saved from certain continued neglect, and now is used daily.
