Art C's 1972 Centurion

1972 or 73 Centurion Unknown model This made in Japan beauty had been sitting in somebody’s garage for years. Needed extensive cosmetic clean up but very minimal mechanical issues. The tires, pedals, handlebar tape and seat were all in various stages of decay and were replaced. It still has the Santa Monica City Bike license as well as the sticker from the LBS where it was purchased (Bikeology). A bit on the heavy side but it really rides great. Contemplating getting lighter wheels but torn as I love the vintage look of the originals.

    Cottered cranks and Shimano components for brakes and drive train! I bet the freewheel is a 333. I recently picked up a Nishiki of a similar vintage.

    Art C., gotta love the orange!
    I came across a Centurion exactly like the one you have, and oddly it had no model name either. It simply said Centurion in the foil-type decals. I suspected of the late 70’s, but early 70’s might be more appropriate.
    You did a beautiful job with the rehab and how you outfitted the ol’ bike. To go alloy or keep original chromed steel is often a dilemma for me; original vs. upgraded…either way, it will always look classic.(imho)
