BRQ’s clean and snazzy, 1981 Schwinn World Sport
Salutations to all!It just totally blows me away the number of old bikes out there that are given away for next to nothing. Good decent bikes in their time, and of a better quality to still be worth a little something now. Even more astounding are the little gems that seem as if they sat in garages most of their lives–with little or no use at all. Here’s one that made it’s way to me recently:Schwinn World Sport made by Giant, as picture would indicate the 118th day of 1981. (Schwinn guys please correct me if I deciphered that serial # wrong) This bike needed absolutely nothing minus the two new tires to replace the dry-rotted gumwalls that I nearly had to pry off the rims with a crowbar.Schwinn approved three piece crank–two chainrings and added bash guardSchwinn approved brake levers to control Dia-compe brakes–front caliper center pull, rear caliper side pullSchwinn approved saddleSchwinn approved front derailleur and Suntour Honor rear derailleur controlled by Suntour stem shiftersSR stemFemco steel rims 27” with a Suntour 5 speed freewheel and Suntour pieplateBurgundy lugged steel X-tra lite frame with gold accents on lugs (not X-tra lite by today’s standards)steel shin-buster pedals* to note: original bar wrap (a step above black electrical tape) does not allow me to read make of drop bars…would it be safe to say Schwinn approved?Cameron/OTS hats off to you for showcasing the old-road-warriors; crappy low-end to vintage high-end..and everything in between.BRQ
