Dan F.’s 1983 Schwinn Le Tour

By now I hope everyone is seeing Schwinn “step-throughs” in their sleep like I am.  Here is a little change of pace: Dan F.’s 1983 Schwinn Le Tour in its super-commuter state.  The whole look of this OTS (especially the panniers) makes me think this thing would look great with a 50 caliber machine gun turret mounted on that rear rack. Not to mention, the added respect you stand to gain from passing motorists!

Hi,
Great site! Thought I’d submit my daily driver, a 1983 Schwinn Le Tour. Dig the faux leather bar wrap. Other than a new seat and seatpost and new cheapo wheels (slippery steel rims ain’t my thing), it is au naturale. Don’t know what happened to the pie plate, too bad. I’ve got a newer bike with fenders etc. for the rain, but on sunny days I rock the Schwinn. Kind of a backwards beater bike scenario.
Thanks and keep spreading the good word of the friction-shifting, center-pull braking, 27-inch-rims having, old, crappy, ten speed!
Dan

Thanks Dan

Can you tell me what brand that tape is? Or where it was ordered from? It really does look great!

  2. Dan says:

Hugh: Thanks! I think it was Soma tape. Got it at LBS, but it seemed kinda old when it came out of the package, so who knows whether they still make it?

Cameron: About the 50mm gun; are you suggesting I “go commando” on my bike? ‘Cause nobody wants that. Seriously. Anyway, me + steel bike = almost 300lbs of bicycle comin’ at ya! If that don’t scare ya . . .

    Dan
