David J’s 1968 Schwinn Varsity

We welcome back another week and a bleak, cold, unforgiving winter day in the Upper-Midwest.  Thanks to David J and his green, gleaming Varsity for a much needed breath of optimism and the promise of Spring a brief 6 months away!

Before and after pictures of my 1968 Varsity. I purchased it from a lady that had it hanging in her garage for 30 plus years, it belonged to her late husband. it was purchased new in 1968 from Coats Schwinn Cyclery in Pomona Ca. As from the before picture it looked pretty rough, but after many hours of cleaning it turned out to be a very stunning bike and a great rider.

    Great job, David! I completely agree with Steve!
    No doubt it took a bunch of polishing to get a 40+ year-old OTS looking that good!
    Let’s see, in 1968 I was probably trying to lay down the longest skidmark ever with my old Schwinn. Man, those things could take a beating!

    Good eye! it had a rack for a tall frame bike on it so I swapped it with the correct size rack.
