That is a fine-looking machine. Is that how you got it or have you done some work? How do you like the tubulars (sew ups, right?)? My most recent find came with sew ups as well, and I’m trying to decide if I should try using them or just sell the wheels on eBay. The tires are shot and would have to be replaced first. I’m not a racer and have never used tubulars. I’d like to try them, but I’m worried it might be too much hassle. They are so retro-cool though! Dilemmas, dilemmas. Enjoy your ride.

the tubulars are like new so I left them on the bike…

Nice bike and a good find. I would have bought a Nishiki Pro in 1972 but the dealer didn’t have one in my size. I bought a Semi-Pro instead and put sew-ups on it. If I had been smart, I would have put up the extra $75 and bought a Paramount.

To Mark D above: I rode sew-ups for several years and patched a lot of flats. Tubulars are very cool but very high maintenance.

What a beauty! Are you sure it’s 1974? I would guess a little earlier, perhaps 1973 or even 1972. That fork, especially, seems old-fashioned. A friend had a 1972 Fuji Finest that looked very similar.

I am 63 and disabled now. However, I have this bike with thousands of miles on it. Use to commute from the south end of Bainbridge Island to the UW in Seattle on this bike. The rims and spokes were crap and other parts. I ended adding Mavic GP 4 rims, Ofmega hubs and DT spokes, and a Shimano Dura Ace Crankset. Lent it to a stepson years ago and got it back a bit more worn than I would have liked, but still have it, complete with American Eagle logo emblazoned on the front. I’ll send pictures when I can.
