My April Fools joke this year is to post a day late. Not much of a joke, but the best I could come up with on such short notice. Enjoy April Fools for a second day with this 1984 Nishiki Olympic 12 sent in by Doohickie (aka. Paul in Fort Worth).
This is the story of a bike. I bought this bike brand new in 1984 when my wife and I could only afford one car. I used it to commute in Los Angeles for a few years. After getting a second car for the family, this bike spent about 20 years hanging from hooks in my garage. I got it down of the hooks last year and starting riding it to work again. The second time out, I wrecked it. I went over the handlebars, landing on my helmet, and bending the fork and frame of the bike. The main pic is from happier days before the wreck; the other pics show the damage after. Even after the wreck, the bike rode fine, but I just didn’t think it was wise to trust a damaged frame. Many of the parts of this bike have found new life on my Raleigh Marathon (as posted here February 3, 2009).
Thanks again Doohickie (Paul H.)
