• Ed H’s Huffy Legrande

Let’s send this week sailin’ in style.  Ed H‘s white-on-white Huffy Legrande will certainly fill that role happily. Ed happens to live right down the road from me (so to speak) and even purchased those slick white fenders at my favorite LBS—Main Street Bicycles.  Have a great weekend everyone, and if it happens to be warm where you are, go ride your bike; and if it happens to be cold where you are, go ride your bike!

I am back again with another gem, I picked up this Huffy Legrande 12 speed from a thrift store for $7.17! I separated it from it long time mixte frame companion which was next to it for the same price. I took it home and over the weekend tore it down, cleaned, polished, lubed, removed the rotted tires and the dead roaches from the crank housing. The positron shifting works perfectly and the ride is surprisingly good and it feels light. I think it looks great with the white electrical tape on the handlebars and the safety leavers removed. I will be adding some fenders, a rear rack and ride it though the winter.

    Thanks Ed

Nice bike. Nice save. White is the new black!

      I just have two questions:

      1. Who established $7.17 as the price?

      2. Why would that bike cost $50 at all the thrift stores near me?

      :-)

It was at a thrift store and their prices are very random. They had 2 Huffy 626s sit on the rack at $49 for months, then they dropped them to $39 and they sat for a few more weeks finally someone snapped them up. Both of the LeGrandes were in way better condition except the tires were shot. I have a theory that they price based on tire condition. I will not give up my thrift store’s location so don’t ask!

That thought has crossed my mind lately.

It really has grown on me no problems less a couple of flats, it shifts perfectly every time. In the spring I will tear it down, clean it and show it some love for a job well done. I may even sneak it out a few times on the warm summer day.
