Fresh off a strong showing in this week’s election, Edward S’s 1979 Schwinn Suburban FFS is sweet little ride for 40 bucks. Edward, I took the liberty of digging up a fresh set of red brake pads to finish off this beauty.
I found this Schwinn Suburban at a large flea market last week for $39. It came from a local bike shop that is still in business. It had a baby carrier on it. I don’t think it was ridden much-there was still flash on the tire treads. The paint suffered a lot of damage, though. It looks like it was crammed against other junk for the past 29 years. I put air in the rotten gumwalls, and it rode, shifted and stopped like new! After a wash, new grease, new tires and tubes, and some car polish, it looks great. It will need new brake pads, too bad I won’t be able to find original-looking rectangular pink ones. It will make a great bike for my wife to ride with our kids.
Thanks Edward
