Elijah M’s Takara Mixte

Posted September 15, 2011

Help ID Elijah M’s late 70s Takara mixte. Elijah submitted this some time ago, so he may already have sold it and/or knows what it is by now. Nonetheless, enjoy another mixte up day.

My brother got this bike at a yard sale a few years back, and he is getting into mountain biking so he wants me to sell this help pay for a new mountain bike. I used to run a vintage parts and bikes company, so I am a little embarrassed that I cannot tell what this is. I know it is Kuwahara 4130 cro-moly frame, which means that it must be made between 69-86. It is not a 81 horizon, as the frame, fork and shifters are different. It has dia-compe brakes, Suntour compe v uxe shifters and a partially chrome compe fork. I am guessing that this is a higher end late 70s takara. It rides great, really smooth feel that those old steel bikes have, and is pretty light and fast. I cannot find any pictures or references to it online, and I do not know what it is worth. The 81 horizons are going for 150 in worse shape, and this is a nicer, probably older bike in better shape so I have it listed for 250. Here are some pictures. If you or any of your readers know what this is I would be grateful. Breathe deep, seek peace.
