Francis S’s 1974ish Sears Free Spirit

Francis S in Quebec, Canada sent in his recently stealthified 1974 Sears Free Spirit.  As most of you know, I don’t condone such drastic measures when addressing an aging OTS.  But hey, it’s not my bike. If you want to paint the entire thing black and put flat bar brake levers on it, I’ll be the last person to tell you that you shouldn’t.

I believe it’s 1974
Sears
Free Spirit 10
Original cables, gears, brakes, frame, wheels and even tires.

Rebuilt -
V-Brakes handles used with original centeral brakes.
New bagage holder.
New paint-job black gloss and metallic silver (not completed, I will eventually paint a Free Spirit 10 Logo as the original stickers couldnt be
removed before the paint and aren’t possibe to find anywhere now).
New Shwinn pedals.
Black bottle holder.
Black hockey tape used as a good grip for the handlebars (surprising, it really works well).

I also own a totally original (not a single part had been modified, including the tires and paint, and everything is in perfect condition)
Venture Formula 115 using the Altus gear shifter (on the down tube, so kinda hard to reach, but very fast).

Thanks Francis

I think the black paint looks cool!
In the words of Henry Ford ” Give em any color they want, as long as it`s Black” I like the kick-stand too! nice touch.

I would like it a lot more if he would paint the remainder of it black.
