Nice GP, Gary! Definitely a keeper!
You’re fortunate to live near an Assenmacher shop!

I might be mistaken, but I believe that is a 1978 model. I had one when I was 13, loved loved loved it. So now that I’m 45 and still into biking I decided to hunt down that same bike. I found a beautiful time capsule model on Craigslist for $130. This model has a sticker on it that claims to be the winner of the 1977 Tour de France. It may not be as fast as some of my other bikes, but a true joy to ride.

This was wonderful to read, Todd. I’m glad you loved that Raleigh Grand Prix as much as I did. I am going to keep an eye out for a good example of one.

Wow! I’m 7 years late to the party here, but I’m hella nostalgic right now. That’s the very bike I rode as a teen — same everything, just taller frame and a different seat. God I so *loved* that bike! I may well have to do what Todd did and find a perfect one somewhere.

An update on this bike. Over the winter, I had it overhauled including a new chain and new bearings on the wheels. Earlier this month, the rear tire I had mentioned on this October 2010 post blew out so that was replaced with a new Kenda tire. Of course, I still enjoying riding this classic bicycle.

Another update. I replaced the front tire today so now this bicycle is on its fourth set of tires–The original pair of Raleighs, two pairs over the years of Schwinns and now a pair of Kenda tires.

Another update. The old original padded vinyl saddle has become cracked so I contacted Brooks England asking which model they recommend that would be compatible with my vintage Raleigh Grand Prix and they suggested the B66. I ordered it through Amazon UK and I just installed it. I admit it still needs fine adjusting so I’ll get that done in the spring.
