I forgot to mention that this week is all French OTS. All Peugs and Motos I believe, and here is another; an exceptional example to say the least. A Motobecane Grand Jubile Mixte from George S.
Got it for $25 off of Craigslist, because I was the only guy crazy enough to arrange a pickup that night. Totally flipped when I realized what the bike actually was; spent the next day with a can of WD-40 and ultrafine steel wool, peeling off the years of caked-on black dirt and what looked like some unholy tarnish/housepaint combo. Photos don’t do it justice – the metallic glimmer on the paint is absolutely gorgeous. Looks mostly original, Huret shifters/derailleurs, Weinmann rims on Normandy Hubs, Stronglight crankset and headset, Pivo (IIRC) stem/bars, suede saddle with a diamond shape where I think the brand decal once was (maybe Avocet? Don’t know), and did I mention a 531 frame with beautiful lined Nerverx lugs? (Sorry, TMI, I know.) Only thing I needed to replace was the tires and chain, and later the front wheel when the original tacoed…while I was riding…on concrete (it wasn’t pretty). Still, it rides like a dream, and handles extremely quickly for its age. Currently residing with my parents in warmer, drier climates than where I am now, while I use a Univega Arrowpace (alas, 12-speed, therefore ineligible) to commute to and from work/school.
Thanks George
