• Hugh’s 1980 Schwinn Continental

As you can tell by the snowy scene, this 1980 Schwinn Continental sent in by Hugh has been sitting in the bottom of my inbox for quite some time. So with out further ado, here she is in all her retina-searing glory.

    Hey Cameron,

I just finished this bike and thought I would send it along. I found it at one of the local Thrift-Stores it was 20.00 After seeing some of Lauren’s bikes, I was inspired to try using some yellow tires with matching Saddle and Cork. I had my doubts going in, But now I`m a believer! I think there will be some more bikes with color matching tires in my future. The build went real good till somehow my rehabilitated rear wheel got mysteriously damaged. Luckily I had a pretty good match in the my stock of old wheels. However, it is now a 12 speed (for the time being anyway).

    Cheers, Hugh

    Thanks Hugh

great color combo and overall slick look- sweeet!
where do you get color matched tires from ?

CST offers a full range of colors in 27 and 700 sizes.
Try E-Bay. I think the supplier is called comcycle-usa
they have a online store and an E-Bay store.

The prices vary from one part of the country to another. And even from city to city. I would suggest you check craigs-list in your area. And search for the same make and model(and condition)
Just keep in mind that “all original” and “fully restored” are not the same thing.

I got some nice new 27″ blue side wall CSTs from a local bicycle swap meet for $20/pair. They had red and yellow in both 700mm and 27″ as well.

    • http://hughsbicycle.blogspot.com Hugh

You have a good eye Matt, Yes it is an Origin 8
saddle. I think it cost a whopping 20.00 It just had the exact look I was after. The price was just a bonus (:

I went to another Swap meet this past weekend and got another pair for $22, yellow ones this time. I asked the seller about pink ones for the wife and he said they have them and would try to remember to pick some up by the next swap. I wonder what other colors are available.
