It’s a two’fer Tuesday and Hugh in Highland is up to his usual Schwinnanigans! He sent me these two a while ago. The first is a Front Freewheeled ’80 Suburban with nice copper paint; the second is an ’83 Giant produced Schwinn World.
Hey Cameron,
The tires and tubes arrived late yesterday and I
could not wait to finish it up. I’m not sure why but I really love this bike. I think I vaguely remember something about a Schwinn you could shift while coasting. Problem was ‘nobody cared’ lol
Ride Safe, Hugh
A while back I spotted a post on a bike forum that mentioned that GIANT had built some frames for Schwinn in the 1980’s. I thought it made sense because, honestly some of the frames just looked to good to be Schwinn. Not that Schwinn did not build great bikes, but they were great in a “heavy-duty” way. Not so great in a Classic Euro way. Anyway I found this Schwinn “World” at a Thrift Store it had the usual light surface rust, brittle tires, lots of dust. But appeared to have very low miles going by the original tires and brake shoes. But to the point! On the left side drop-out is a sticker that reads “Schwinn Approved” and under that “GIANT”. I thought Cool it is true! I had my doubts. I thought someone made it up to help sell old Schwinns. lol Anyway, I finished it yesterday, and I think it looks pretty good. Although my first plan was to go with a black saddle yellow handlebar tape and some yellow detail on the frame. Then I ran cross this really cool red and black Schwinn saddle that I had found a while back, and changed my plan. I guess I could still change it if it doesn’t sell.
Thanks again Hugh
