Jason G’s 1972 Raleigh Grand Sports

This bike was purchased new and ridden by my uncle from 1972 until his death in 1987. Since then, it has mostly been in storage until I recently took it out and had it tuned up. It rides beautifully and looks good other than the paint wear that you can see. I’ve been riding it alot and have enjoyed learning more about it. One interesting thing that I can’t seem to find information on is that the bike actually says “Grand Sports” rather than “Gran Sport”, which I can’t seem to find any information on.

    It looks great, I just think the fenders need to be adjusted a little.

      Yeah, there are a few things that need adjustment, but other than the paint, this bike is really in great working order.

    The Grand Sports and the Gran Sport are essentially the same bike. It seems that Raleigh slightly changed the name of the bike during a model year change.
    One rumor that I’ve heard is that the Raleigh’s decal supplier made them wrong and Raleigh just went ahead and used them.

      Thanks! I’d been wondering about those decals for a while, but hadn’t been able to find much information on the difference.

    Hopefully, when the time comes, you can pass it on to another member of your family who will value it, too.
