Jeff V’s Panasonic Sport 10 and Ross Gran Tour II

Jeff V has become a regular contributer to the Gallery, and he has done a nice job covering a fairly wide swath of Oldtenspeeddom. Here he is with pair of late 70s his and hers precision OTS:  The first is a Panasonic Sport and the second is a Ladies’ Ross Gran Tour II.

Hi, Jeff V. again. I picked this Panasonic Sport 10 speed up recently. It was quite rusty, but I’ve cleaned up the chrome as best as possible and added new 27 inch gumwalls. Center pull brakes really grab well. Shimano derailleurs. Even has a Blackburn rack. Tall frame (23 inch seat tube). I added a matching “electric blue” bottle cage. Fun to ride! Hope you enjoy.

Ross Gran Tour II

I picked this up a year ago thinking my teenage daughter would like it, but they’re not into OTS.  The paint is extremely for this ’80s vintage Ross Gran Tour II bike.  It has an Avocet saddle, and all I’ve done is spent a little bit of time polishing the chrome and aluminum, and I’ve added new gumwall 27 inch tires.  Even the foam handlebar tubes are in excellent condition!   Hope your viewers enjoy seeing this bike – it rides very smoothly too!

    The Panasonic looks great and very functional.And the Ross looks show-room fresh. Nice bikes for sure. I would be proud to own that Panasonic. Is it about a 58
    cm frame?

      Yes, 23 inches X 2.54cm/in = 58 cm. I no longer have the Panasonic – a local college fellow is now the proud owner!

    I know that this is a very old post but I have the exact same Ross and want to make some modifications to it. I’m going for a townie/city bike feel and I want to use it as a commuter. Can you tell me anything about this bike? I don’t want to go to a forum as the bike snobs seem to really hate this bike. I have heard that the parts are cheap–that’s fine by me, I’m a poor grad student looking to invest my spare change into something that may be expensive but with patience could turn out to be a fun project. Even if it is hi-ten steel, is the frame good and durable? In other words, if I invest time and money into this project will the frame die in a couple of months? I figure it has lasted this long (do you know the time frame of the bike?) so I shouldn’t be worried, but I still wonder. Thank you very much for your time and any help you can give me!
