1981 Fuji Royale

I got this bike for free from a friend’s boss. It had been sitting in the back of a wood shop for years and was covered in sawdust and dirt. However, once I got it all apart and started cleaning it up, I was surprised to see how clean it was. There is little to no rust on this bike and the chrome all polished up great! I put on a set of aero levers, new bar tape and saddle and It needed new pedals as well. I picked up a set of all-city pedals with leather straps and green toe clips. The brakes have been upgraded to dual pivots and this bike rides like a dream. I opted to keep the original 27″ wheels because they were still true and these Bontager sport tires with the tan sidewall needed a bike to go on. It has the suntour drivetrain that is branded “FUJI” and the pantographed and painted Sugino cranks that I loved at first sight.

    Sawdust and a little grease are renown for forming a protective layer, like turtle-wax, on old bikes. Your Fuji cleaned up beautifully and I like the tan bar tape.
