• John A.’s 1974 Schwinn Le Tour

Today’s old ten speed comes to us from John A.  It’s good to hear this once abandoned 74 Le Tour will again be tearing up the roads.

This bike has been in my brother-in-law’s basement for several years after being abandoned by its last owner after a fall. The serial number is 4C03137, which combined with the stem bolt makes me think it is a 1974 model. It appears to have been ridden very little based on the lack of bearing race wear and general condition. It cleaned up very well but there were many scratches and nicks in the paint. Pep Boys had some touch up paint that is a very close match. At least it looks better than the scratches. After a break-in period to get everything dialed in it will be used by my brother-in-law on the rural roads around Lancaster, PA. He may want to change the non-stock saddle although it is more comfortable than I expected.

    Thanks again John
