From Rotterdam yesterday to the Scottish Highlands today, it appears we’re on an impromptu holiday abroad. This is John B’s 1985 Raleigh Routier 10-Speed.
Attached are pics of my 1985 Raleigh Routier 10 speed. I bought her when I was 17 at a cost of 140 pounds. I was brought up in the Highlands of Scotland in Inverness and the bike did an excellent job of taking me on runs to all the local lochs and glens.
The bike was more of a tourer than a racer. Mudgaurds are fairly essential in the Highlands as it’s been known to rain a bit! One of the less enjoyable tasks was taking chrome cleaner to the steel wheel rims as they rusted fairly easily. She was replaced by a modern tourer and I was amazed how much lighter and faster the new bike was. But the Raleigh will always have good memories for me.
