I have a theory that every bike looks better in Appliance Almond, and today’s entry just one more example that proves my case. This is John M’s 1972 Schwinn Varsity.
This is a 1972 schwinn varsity that i picked up from craigslist a while back. i was fairly content with it looking like it came straight out of the bottom of a swamp, but after a while the constant threat of tetanus and the fact that everyone i knew had MUCH nicer bikes than me started to wear thin. so, after about 700 pounds of steel wool, a fresh paint job, new leather tape, and a thorough cleaning and re-packing of all moving parts, i finally have a decent looking ride that my friends won’t tease me and throw rocks at me down at the playground for. it’s a heck of a riot to ride, and it always gives me great pleasure whenever i take this guy down to the milk bar to wet my whistle. the “ladies” can’t get enough of it. and by “ladies” i mean no one in particular. but hey, when you ride around on an OTS, you’re really only doing it for yourself, am i right? …right?
thank you so much for the website, and i wish you and everyone safe and happy travels!
(just lay easy on the milk, it’ll get you in some real trouble.)
