Jonathan D’s Peugeot Super Sport
How about another Peugeot? This sparkling Super Sport comes to us from Jonathan D. in the Netherlands. But don’t be impressed by his 50 euro purchase price though because I’m pretty sure that’s like $5000 USD.

Hi,
I recently picked up a Peugeot Super Sport.
I bought it from Marktplaats, a dutch kinda Ebay. The price was 50,- euros. The guy sold it because he had a modern 27-speed citybike to commute with. He never used this Peugeot.
He had bought this bike from his former neighbours. When they moved, they had a pile of old stuff and junk they were throwing away. Old furniture and stuff like that. One day, his neighbour puts this bike next to the junk. So he asks “you’re not gonna throw that bike away, are you?”. The neighbour had bought it somewhere around 1980, as a sportsbike, and almost never used it. Shortly after he bought the bike, he became a father, and he didn’t have time to go touring on the bike in the weekends anymore. Now that he was moving, he wanted to get rid of the bike.
So the guy i bought it from, got the bike from his neighbour for almost nothing.
The first time i drove it was so fantastic. I love the handling of this bike. In my enthousiasm, i got the bike up to a high speed, it ran very smooth. Then i had to brake because there was a crossroad, and a car coming from the left just crossed right in front of me. Well, i nearly had a heartache. The Mavac brakes hardly did anything. Maybe it’s because after 30 years, it still has the original brakepads.
I don’t know exactly what frame type it is. A UO-8?? The frame has some distinctive items you don’t find on a raceframe, like a dynamo-hanger, and a “hook” on the seat-tube to hold a tire-pump.
Some details:
Year: between 1979-1983
Made in France (it says so on the top tube)
Peugeot “103″ steel
Simplex derailleurs and shifters
Peugeot crankset
Rigida chromed rims
Mavac brakes, which pull on both sides
Pedals are from Lyotard sgdg, the “cords” to strap the baggage with, also say “sgdg”
The dynamo is a Soubitez
As far as i know, it’s original. It was hardly ever used, and nothing was changed. It just sat in a garage. Even the front light has the Peugeot lion on it.
Only things that are certainly not original are the tires and the Rolls saddle i mounted.
Love your website! Keep up the good work.
Greetings from the Netherlands,
Jonathan D
Thanks Jonathan

Not bad for $72 (US)!
I like the chain guard.
6609 Japanese yen! What a nice OTS. Cool color combo, the orange with the green letters.
Could be a UO-8, with a stem not from the original UO-8 build. Or maybe Peugeots were differently equipped for the Netherlands than they came equipped for the US.
Then again, the internet says “Super Sports” might be UO-9s or UO-10s, and now that I think about it, “Super Sport” isn’t a decal from any UO-8 I’ve seen (definitely not the one I owned for a tiny bit). 1980 sounds like the right year as the bike has the 80s-style decal set but half-chrome forks, a la 70s.
Very nice, immaculate bike. Eduard van Groningen
I would kill for that chain guard!
Forks are slightly bent, it’s a shame… I hope he doesn’t have problems from that.
