This week’s theme: Japanese Bikesss That Ssstart With Sss, and I’m not kidding! Here isss Mark A’sss Ssshogun 2000. Sssweet!
…ok, so it’s actually a triple ring, so not technically a “ten speed,” but that term seems to be ubiquitous to the style of bike, kind of like Magic Marker and Kleenex became for permanent marking pens and nose tissue… I present to you my ca. 1985 Shogun 2000, which is a touring bike built up like a classic randonneuse. I had a very nice 1988 Schwinn Voyageur. As I came to the realization that the frame simply didn’t fit me the way I would prefer, the members of Classic and Vintage on bikeforums.net came up with a “This frame doesn’t fit me” thread, with the intention of arranging trades for better fitting frames between forum members. A C&V member in Boston and I arranged a frame-for-frame swap, and this is the result of that time-honored system of barter. Here are the details:
