I hope everyone enjoyed Le Tour this year, I know I did. I’m hoping to post a Tour Wrap Up tonight, but we’ll see. Now back to the bikes.
Here’s a unbelievable dumpster special, Matt C’s 1979 Raleigh Grand Prix.
Good afternoon. This is my 1979 Raleigh Super Grand Prix. I found this in a dumpster behind my office last year. The bike was in pretty bad shape,as one could imagine finding it in a dumpster. The Brooks saddle looked like a dog had used it for a chew toy. The tires were flat and the wheels were bent. Most of the components were encased in rust, if they were there at all. What drew me to the dumpster was this almost glowing copper-orange colored set of forks with chrome tips. I remembered immediately what this was.As a kid, I used to druel over these in the local bicycle shop in Indianapolis. So I spent most of this past winter rebuilding it from the ground up. All is new with the exception of the Sugino crank and dual sprockets and Suntour power shifters and stem. It rides like a dream ,very smooth and with precise handling. Hope you like it .
Thanks Matt C., Washington, DC
