1971 Schwinn Continental 10 speed 24″ frame burgundy color. This is my Schwinn that I purchased new in 1971 at the age of 14 after saving for about one year. My
parents told me I would not have any use for it in short order because I would soon be driving. They were right because I only rode it for about two and a half years then driving took over for getting around. But in that two years this bike probably went 2-3 thousand miles. In that time I rode it through creeks up to it axles–rode it down railroad embankments–jumped curbs. I also had it going 50 mph (down hill) pumping the pedals for all I had.(confirmed by a motorist that pulled up next to me and hollered out 50!) Now after it has sat in my garage for about 42 years as of mid July 2013 I decided to pull it out and clean it up-install new tires and brake shoes and ride it. I have since put on almost 200 miles on it. All this @ 56 years old and it feels great!! I hope to continue into next year because cold weather is coming soon to Wisconsin. I have included a few pictures and a copy of the original sale slip. Hope you can use this info in your blog.
