Welcome to week two of Japan(ese) Week. Leading us off is Mike V.’s cherry Miyata 110, complete with the chubbiest bar wrap I’ve ever seen!
I picked up this bike at a tag sale for under $100. The bike was dirty and the tires and bar tape were dry rotted, but it was all original and in excellent shape. I debated turning this into a single speed, but decided in the end that this bike should be left as god intended due to the fact that it was completely original. The only modifications I made were to put on a shorter stem (old road quill) and a 36 tooth small chainring. I replaced the tires, cables (using the original metallic tan housing), bar tape, chain, and regreased all of the bearings. On my inaugural ride, I was happy to learn that this bike rides very nice, super smooth and fast. Old ten speeds rule!
