I intentionally skipped yesterday in the hope one of you might pony-up and start the bidding on MSB’s Peugeot up for auction but alas, it appears we’re all a bunch of tire kickers. Today we’re back regular scheduled programming, so kick away!

This is Ryan B’s (girlfriend’s) ’89 Centurion Ironman Dave Scott. This color combo reminds me of when my daughter dresses herself.

Price paid: $150

I picked this bike up for my girlfriend. She wanted to make it a little more girly so we did a few modifications.
So let me start by saying I LOVE Centurion bikes. They were very well built. Light, nimble, smooth, great paint and finish. Plus they usually came specked with nice stuff. I would really like to get one of these frames in my size….preferably in the smoked gray/white color. Anyways, this is how it has progressed….

Upgrades

Ultegra/Mavic Open pro wheelset
Light blue Pro Race 3 tires
New cassette/chain, and red bottle holder
New cables with purple housing
New Cane Creek SC1 brake levers (The old Shimano 600 hoods were beat up and VERY hard to find)
Purple bar tape

    Let me start by saying….that, my friend is a gorgeous bike. I am a GREAT BIG FAN of Centurion myself–having owned a few. Well built, stunning in appearance if you can see past the ” Miami Vice” paint jobs.(the 80’s Cent’s) Love the blue side-walled tires, I think Kenda or CST makes a total purple tire as well that would give bike an overdose of kool-factor!
    Not to take anything away from your lovely bike, but is this the color you are referring to? I have hesitated to submit this bike, A. it’s a 14 speed, and B. I think Cameron is getting tired of me submitting bikes that bring controversy into the beloved Gallery.(jk)
    This is from the year 89/90 that Diamond Back “swallowed up” Centurion. It is aptly named Centurion Designed Interval, exclusively built for WSI,Inc. Camarillo, California. It’s either last year Centurion or first year Diamond Back? Head badge and decals say Diamond Back.

    to note: if at all possible, can you send another image so that I might use zoom for a closer inspection of that lil’ beauty–ty.

    Ryan B, I have a 1989 Iron Man Expert in Black, 59cm, one owner, immaculate shape. I picked it up a few weeks ago because the owner told me it was a 61cm, and I was going to convert it to a single speed. Now that I know it’s a 59cm, I’d like to sell it.
