• Timothy J.’s Alward Long Haul Tourer

It that time of year again. It’s the time of year that I start planning my two wheeled endeavors of the following 6-8 months. One endeavor that I always hope to complete is a multi-night mini tour up into Wisconsin. Every year it starts this way then October rolls around and I haven’t managed one single weekend!   Sure, I do the obligatory century or two and lots of good weekends full of riding, but I never do an overnighter. Perhaps, this year?

Which brings us to today’s OTS sent in by Timothy J. This is a very capable looking Alward. Everything about this bike says, “Ride me.”, “Ride me very, very far.”, “Ride me please. How’s Wisconsin sound?”, “Boy, I love Wisconsin this time of year. What do ya say you strap a 12 pack and bed roll to me and we head off together?”. What, you don’t hear that?

Know nothing of the maker of the frame save the name cast into the seatstay. No decals on the plain brown frame at all. Has a rare Campy triple NR crank and is obviously built for serious touring. Any information of the builder would be appreciated.

    Thanks Timothy

Ahem……… old TEN speed gallery……. cough cough.

I mean I aint no mathematician, but Im pretty sure 3 x any number does not equal 10.

Haha, just kidding. Thats a really nice looking bike.

XTR, 600, Campy, etc. I love how old tourers are always mutts. It would seem that there’s no rhyme or reason to the component groups but they are always unbelievably functional.

If you make it to Wisconsin this summer, look us in Madison!

Jaques Anquetil was a french bike builder who used what I believe is Prugnat lugs. It suggests a french bike but things get confused with that award-stamp on fork (sounds english, right…). Very nice bike, indeed!
