• What Year Is Tom’s Raleigh Grand Prix?

Tom is looking for some help with the vintage of this women’s Raleigh Grand Prix. We have two other Raleigh’s with similar paint and Simplex components: Guy’s 1972ish Raleigh Record and Jeremy’s Raleigh Grand Prix, but neither of them have a for-sure date.  I would be 99.999% positive that the Falcon derailer it is currently sporting is a replacement.  According to Sheldon Brown’s Retro Raleighs page Grand Prix came with Weinmann 999 brakes and Simplex Prestige derailers from 1972-1974.  So not knowing much about Raleighs, that is the best I can do.  Perhaps one of my readers can narrow to one of the three years.

Can someone help me date this bike?  It has a Simplex shifter, Falcon derailleur, Nervain pedals and Weinmann750 Vainquerer999Brakes
    Thanks,
    Tom

I have a 75 Grand Prix, Red, nearly in mint condition. I was wondering if anyone knew how much it’s worth.
      Thanks

That’s very probably a 1972. In 1973 they changed to a no-name crankset because Nervar could not keep up with demand. They also started building frames and possible even assembling some of these bikes at Raleigh’s Dutch subsidiary, Gazelle. Those bikes have a sticker at the base of the seat tube that identifies them. This bike originally did have the Simplex Prestige derailleur.

I just sold a 1973 Grand Prix, stripped down to a single-speed and totally rebuilt, for $225 in NYC.
