I just sold a 1973 Grand Prix, stripped down to a single-speed and totally rebuilt, for $225 in NYC.

That’s very probably a 1972. In 1973 they changed to a no-name crankset because Nervar could not keep up with demand. They also started building frames and possible even assembling some of these bikes at Raleigh’s Dutch subsidiary, Gazelle. Those bikes have a sticker at the base of the seat tube that identifies them. This bike originally did have the Simplex Prestige derailleur.
