It has come to my attention that played out fixed gear trends are now washing up on the shores of Old Ten Speed Island. This Murray sporting a pool noodle top tube pad could be cause for alarm, but I am not so worried. This is indeed a 10-speed, but it’s of the early to mid 90’s Wal-mart mountain bike variety and clearly not an accurate reflection of the old ten speed scene as whole.

Cameron,
Well another interesting OTS showed up behind the library today. This Murray even has the weird red with black drizzle paint job. Like some one overloaded a brush and let the paint just run off in a thin line all over the frame.
The one nod to current fashion is the orange pool noodle used as a top tube pad, on a step through frame no less. Didn’t see the rider so I can’t confirm how short he/she actually is. Enjoy
Thanks Ben
This General Rutherford, sent in by Bob, appears to be the men’s variant of Tim’s General Mixte. Most often, the 26″ bikes are on the lower end of the quality scale, but this one is certainly the exception. Lugged frame, brazed cable stops and the European bottom bracket are not often found rolling on 26s.

Here’s an old 10 speed General “Rutherford”. Pretty neat little bike with the chromed steel 26 x 1 3/8 wheels and the steel cottered cranks. All decked out in new duds and ready for inspection!
Thanks Bob
Jared’s Free Spirit 10-speed was slated for posting on Friday, but my pesky employer crippled me with a deadline—so sorry for the delay. Jared, this Free Spirit has some very nice touches—most notably, the giant triangle rear reflector, the 12 inch spoke mounted reflector and the wing nut style front wheel. Good work on a great deal.

Just picked up this old Free Spirit ten speed at a garage sale this weekend for $5. It needed new tires and tubes, a good cleaning, and the wheels could use some truing, but otherwise, it should be back on the road soon!
Thanks Jared
Typically I don’t post classified ads for individuals, but I made an exception today. Greg in Windsor, Ontario, contacted me via email wanting to know the best way to locate a worthy purchaser for his astoundingly original Suteki 12. I immediately identified with Greg plight. I am, and have always have been, very attached to bikes and vehicles I have owned, and when faced with selling one of them, I plummet into a fit of ownership related separation anxiety. That said, anytime I have sold a car or bike I had always gone to great pains to ensure it made it’s way into to the capable hands of a loving new owner. After three months of creating and maintaining this website, it is clear to me that any one of the OTS riders and aficionados that frequent the OTSG would certainly be the most capable hands and the most loving new owners of any orphaned 10 12 speed. So without further ado, I am happy to present Greg’s Suteki 12:

Hello, I came across your site while looking for info on a Suteki 12 speed racing bike. I am looking to sell one, but considering it is in great shape with the original components, I didn’t want it to go to just anyone. I would appreciate your help, if you know the best way to locate a potential buyer. I am currently in Windsor Ontario, just across the river from Detroit Michigan, but will be moving to Phoenix Arizona in about 4 weeks. I am attaching a picture with this email.
Thanks for your time.
Greg
