Monday Market - What Will $75 Buy These Days?

With so many Owner Submitted OTS streaming in lately, I have not done a Monday Market in over a month—I think we’re due.

Summer is officially in full swing and the national average for a gallon of gas has reached $4.10. Appropriately, the average asking price for an “old 10-speed” on Chicago Craigslist is a robust $113.11(as of June 23). Similar to the PistaDex, the price of some old 10-speeds are beginning to eclipse their original MSRP—leaving thrifty cyclists who have relied upon depreciated old ten speeds to feed their hoarding habits in withdrawal.

Are there any good deals on crappy bikes anymore? Well, in today’s edition of Monday Market, I am shopping with only $75 in-hand, and surprisingly, there are still enough old crappy 10-speeds to go around—especially if you live in Ohio.

Troy And Meghan’s 1973 Schwinn Worlds

Troy and his girlfriend Meghan have to be the most stylish couple in town when they head out for a ride. And it would be hard not to look good riding around on this perfect pair of Lemon/Lime Schwinns. A second straight day of gorgeous Schwinns well photographed as promised. Enjoy the weekend!

Two old ten speeds here. Both are the 1973 Schwinn World bikes. From what i understand these were the first bikes to be imported by Schwinn and were only produced the one year. The yellow World Voyageur is mine, its a really premium bike that came with all top of the line components and an all chrome lightweight frame. The green World Traveler belongs to my girlfriend. Its a great midrange ten speed and she just loves it.

The Rush Is On - Ric’s Lime Green 1978 Sportabout

After Tuesdays news the Sportabouts are really starting to come out of the woodwork. Ric in Wichita has offered his own prized lead sled to the Rock Racing cause. Ric, I spoke with Mike this morning, and he said he will txt you soon.

Ric's 1978 Schwinn Sportabout - In Lime Green of course.

The impending rush on lime green Sportabouts led me to pull this monster out of my garage. Please pass my contact information along to Michael Ball.
I picked this bike up at a thrift store a few years ago because it was the most obnoxious thing I’d ever seen. Also because it is licensed in both Fargo and Wichita, so I thought it was destined to be owned by me as my family also made the move from Fargo to Wichita years ago. I suspect it was the heaviest thing on the moving truck.

Thanks Ric

Roger’s 1978 Schwinn Sportabout

After yesterday’s news about Rock Racing, Roger in Utah sent this picture of his 1978 Schwinn Sportabout in the now much sought-after Lime Green. Roger, I would not be surprised if you receive a call from Mike and the boys looking to relieve you of this little emerald gem. Be firm, my friend, don’t settle anything less than $10k.

Roger's 1978 Schwinn Sportabout

My 1978 Schwinn Sportabout. Bottom of the line for Schwinn racing bikes for that year. Also the only year it was offered in that Lime Green color. My daughter borrowed it for a while, and christened it Kermit, because of the color. Thirty eight pounds of quality Electro Forged Chicago steel!

Thanks Roger

Derby King also has a vintage Mercier for sale. Unlike the Mercier above, this model is outfitted with French components (Is that a good thing?) No price listed.
